Learning Objectives
The course of the objectives of providing students with foundation elements for the effective understanding and use of advanced networking technologies, i.e, software defined networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and related system architectures (e.g. Fog Computing and Internet of Things). The course has the objective of training professionals able to effectively master knowledge on networking technologies with IT technologies and architecture and business elements.

- Software defined networking
o limitations of existing network technologies and SDN principles;
o SDN data plane: Data Plane architecture and OpenFlow protocol
o SDN Control Plane: SDN Controller reference architecture, analysis of state of the art controllers, REST APIs, centralized and distributed control plane
o SDN Application Plane: Application Plane architecture, main SDN Applications: traffic engineering, monitoring, data center networking

o Introduction on cloud computing

o NFV architecture: NFV Management and Orchestration
